  KAYASTHA Kayastha  (also referred to as  Kayasth ) denotes a cluster of disparate  Indian  communities broadly categorised by the regions of the  Indian subcontinent  in which they were traditionally located—the  Chitraguptavanshi Kayasthas  of  North India , the  Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhus  of  Maharashtra , the  Bengali Kayasthas  of  Bengal  and  Karanas  of   Odisha . C hitragupta  (Sanskrit: चित्रगुप्त, 'rich in secrets' or 'hidden picture') is a  Hindu  god assigned with the task of keeping complete records of the actions of human beings and punishing or rewarding them according to their  karma .
